A rare example of a Punjabi Bazuband arm guard (vambrace) from the late 18th century.
Crafted from Wootz watered steel, the Bazuband is decorated with chiselled panels, each embellished with gold overlay.
Gold Koftgari borders, featuring a geometric design, run along the edges of the arm guard in the classic 'Korbandi' style, a technique that uses negative space to highlight the active watered patterns of Wootz steel.
The arm guard is attached to a finely woven fabric mitten, traditionally known as ‘Chilta Hazar Masha’ (thousand nails), which provides an additional layer of protection for the back of the wearer's hand.
