A 19th century Hide Dhal shield of convex form with upturned edges.

The hide is lacquered black which remains in good condition.

The shield is set with four primary bosses which are embossed in a sunburst design to pay homage to ‘Surya' the sun-god that many Rajput warrior clans claim descent from. The copper gilt bosses have some loss to the gilt application but retain the shields aesthetic appeal.
